The artist has given the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound honor cash to the trust for venues, which functions to preserve the Britain's small live music spots.

The star was presented with the award on October 16 as his latest record People Watching was declared the outstanding release of the previous year.

The musician has decided to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the vital role local spots had in his early career.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing my current career if it hadn't been for all the shows I performed around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," remarked Sam Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these venues have ceased operations – approximately one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Recently, well-known musicians like Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its efforts to support the industry, by applying a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which goes to help independent venues.

Sam Fender also participated, collecting more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist 38 local spots across the UK.

These funds assisted locations that were dealing with possible closure due to difficulties arising from water damage, fires and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, court cases and neighbor objections.

Other venues were granted funding support in upgrading amenities and gear that directly benefitted artists and concertgoers.

"The concept that money from shows in big venues helps the local stages, where it begins for performers like me, is just logical," Fender has said.

He is among several artists to give his honor prize money to good deeds.

Back when Pulp won the trophy in the mid-90s for their record their work, lead singer the singer stated that the act would donate their prize money to the charity War Child.

During 2002, artist Ms Dynamite shared her bounty between multiple organizations, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I gave a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they required new equipment," she shared with the media.

In recent years, Ezra Collective gave their winnings to the community center that developed their band, alongside other local music groups.

Also 1994 winners M People gave their award to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was found to have the illness.

"The victory was sufficient," stated singer Small. "The prize was the bonus but we could do without the extra, because we had the honor. So our winning impacted another person's life."

Last week, the trust shared it had rescued two grassroots venues in south-east England, by bringing them into local control.

The first in that area and the other in that location were bought under the community ownership scheme, which is supported by a national body and enthusiasts who buy "stakes" in the venues.
